KONOTYPE

A new approach to analog photography

KONOTYPE

Vienna 2014, Florian „Doc“ Kaps from Supersense and Uwe Mimoun from KONO fantasised about the idea of inventing a completely new approach to analog photography. Something absolutely different but at the same time not overly complicated to use. Not living by the rules of having a negative or a positive and with a super simple and lightning fast developing process. The dream got stuck in the back of Uwe’s mind and out of the blue, there was an idea!

Doc immediately got it and after travelling thousands of miles through Europe and spending endless hours of planning and more than one near defeat, KONO and Supersense made it! The first 450 rolls will be produced very, very soon!

KONOTYPE by KONO Manufaktur

It’s the dream of many photographers to delve deep into the fascinating world of alternative processes like collodion wet plate or tintype. The enormous amount of time needed to master this craft, the costs, the handling of chemicals, the low ISO and the necessity of a well equipped dark room are all obstacles high enough to stop most of us.

Till now

It took us more than 5 years of research and development to make this dream come true.

Sometimes even the weirdest ideas come true, still ISO 6, 35mm
